Connecting to Your Company Network Remotely
Introduction
This guide explains how to connect to your company's network securely from home or any remote location using Cisco Secure Client, a VPN (Virtual Private Network) application. After reading this guide, you will be able to:
- Connect independently.
- Understand why the connection is required.
- Troubleshoot a failed connection.
This guide covers Windows and macOS computers. It does not cover mobile devices or the initial installation of Cisco Secure Client. If you have not yet installed the application, contact your IT department before continuing.
Key Terms, Simply Explained
Before You Connect
You will use your username and password to connect to the company server. You get them from the IT team. Make sure you have them before proceeding.
Before continuing, make sure Cisco Secure Client is installed on your computer. The IT department is responsible for software installation and configuration.
Your organization might require MFA to verify your identity. This could mean receiving a code on your phone or using an authenticator app. Make sure your phone is available.
Connecting to the Corporate Network
The steps are identical on macOS and Windows, except for step 1.

Open the Cisco Secure Client application.Windows: Start Menu → All Apps → Cisco folder → Cisco Secure Client.
macOS: Finder → Applications → Cisco folder → Cisco Secure Client.⚠ macOS only: During initial operation, a prompt will appear asking to approve a system extension. Click Allow. -

In the VPN field, enter the server address provided by your IT department.

Click Connect.

Enter your username and password, then click OK.

If your organization requires MFA, approve the authentication request on your phone.

When connected, the Cisco Secure Client icon in your taskbar (Windows) or menu bar (macOS) changes to indicate an active connection.
Troubleshooting
vpn.company.com
- Re-enter your credentials carefully.
- If the error persists, contact your IT department to reset your credentials.
- Open a web page. If it does not load, your internet connection is off or too slow.
- Check that Wi-Fi is turned on.
- If Wi-Fi is on, restart your router.
- If none of the above works, contact your internet service provider.
Before connecting again, make sure:
- Your phone's notification volume is on.
- Do Not Disturb is turned off.
- The MFA app is open and ready.
